Robotic Surgery Systems Fundamentals and Safety

SRB 101 introduces students to the core concepts and technologies underpinning modern robotic surgical systems. Emphasis is placed on understanding the historical development, classification, and diverse applications of these systems in various surgical specialties. Students will explore the architecture, primary subsystems, and user interfaces, gaining insight into how robotic systems interact with surgeons and patients. A significant focus is placed on the regulatory landscape, essential safety features, and the responsibilities of service technicians in ensuring safe and compliant operation. Practical labs will provide hands-on experience with system setup, functional checks, and troubleshooting, preparing students for real-world service scenarios and establishing a solid foundation for advanced studies in surgical robotics and navigation.
